Hair Smoothing Keratin Hair Treatments in Montreal

It’s happens to the best of us. We thought we were having a “good hair day” but the moisture in the air had different plans for us. Instead of the well-behaved hair we started the day with, a frizz developed. And got even frizzier as the day went on! Not pretty.

Then keratin treatments came along, promising smooth, silky hair meant to endure humidity and weather better. Yay, right?

Well, yes. But let’s get a few things “straight” first shall we?

What exactly is a keratin treatment?

A keratin treatment is a chemical process that gives hair a smooth, shiny and long-lasting finish. A keratin treatment can be confused with a Brazilian blowout. While there are many similarities, there are some serious differences (read on).

How is a keratin treatment done?

A traditional keratin treatment involves a stylist putting on a special solution on your hair for 20 minutes. After that, the stylist will blow-dry and flat iron your hair so it remains poker straight for up to 3 months.

In many parts of the world, the solution used in a Brazilian Blowout contains formaldehyde (or formaldehyde producing ingredients). But these toxic treatments are no longer allowed in Canada (thank goodness).

Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen that can cause serious respiratory problems if exposure is frequent enough. Scary, right? You want straight hair not a hospital bed!

At our Montreal salon, we carry one of the only keratin treatments that’s been approved by Sante Canada. This means you can have smooth, silky locks…safely.

Today’s keratin treatments (especially here in Canada) are a far cry from the Brazilian Blowouts of the past. This is a kinder and gentler treatment, for sure. These keratin treatments smooth your hair, not straighten (a key difference to remember).

Some tips to consider after your keratin treatment:

  • Don’t wash your hair for 72 hours after your keratin treatment. This ensures that the keratin proteins bond securely to your hair.
  • Use a gentle shampoo when you do wash your hair. Make sure its mild, sulfate free and doesn’t strip away the keratin.
  • Do not receive any more than three keratin treatments per year. Yes, the treatments of today are safer but its still stressful on your hair. You want to give your hair time to recover.

We provide keratin treatment consultations in our Montreal salon. Let us examine your hair and your expectations. If it’s right for you, a keratin treatment can make your hair look amazing for a long time, even on “bad hair days.”
