Tina Fey took a break from the final weeks of 30 Rock production to support the sciences last night. The show wraps next month. “It’s been bittersweet,” she said, “but still very silly.” Fey was mistress of ceremonies at the American Museum of Natural History’s annual gala, and her costars from throughout the years—Jason Sudeikis, Jack McBrayer, and Jay Pharoah among them—came to party. “She is the hardest working person ever,” Jimmy Fallon told Style.com. “She would work until they turned the heat off. She would have a scarf and ski hat on in the office, typing away.” Guests were also looking forward to the much-hyped Maroon 5 performance—when Adam Levine took the stage, Stacey Bendet and Olivia Wilde both stood up and danced, and Mick Jagger offered a cool nod of approval from his table.
Across Central Park at the Met, Carolina Herrera hosted an intimate cocktail before the annual Apollo Circle benefit. This is Herrera’s seventh and final year collaborating on the event, and to mark the occasion she dressed over 40 women. Being surrounded by so many friends wearing her work made the designer nostalgic. “It’s so important for young members to come here, see beautiful things, get inspired, and learn how to really see. We’ve been taking my girls here since they were very small.”
Many of the guests did have a childlike sense of wonder as they moved from Herrera’s reception to the sprawling Temple of Dendur, where the main party took place. Lauren Santo Domingo told first-timer Jessica Stam, “I’ve been coming for years, and it’s always like you’re living out your childhood dreams.” Seth Myers was a bit more pragmatic, “I’m nervous—there’s a heightened sense of danger that I might break a priceless piece of art.”
