B Cellars winery in Calistoga, Calif., is tinkering with the taste buds and creativity of its guests in a new series of wine and food experiences. In a class called Sensory and Excitement ($55 per person), for instance, patrons can examine how childhood sensory experiences affect the way adults taste and interpret wine by tasting childhood favorites—such as Lucky Charms marshmallows, Dr. Pepper, and raspberries—to detect primary, secondary, and tertiary aromas in wines. In a hands-on Wine Blending Boot Camp ($150 per person, including lunch), guests can tour the vineyard, taste wines, then develop and blend their own wines to be judged by the group in a blind tasting; the winner will take home a magnum of B Cellars wine.
B Cellars also is giving wine lovers a sneak preview of its future-release wines with a tasting straight from the barrel as a part of a multi-vintage vertical tasting with artisan cave-aged cheese pairings in the Library Wine Tasting ($65 per person). The estate vineyard is still available for traditional private picnics and tours ($150 per couple; $75 per additional guest), among other events. (877.229.9939, www.bcellars.com)
