One of the first movies a girl sees when she’s growing up is usually a Disney classic. Theres something so magical about the movies that inspire, warm the heart and assist in shaping young minds. One of my favorites as a child was Cinderella. As any venerable little girl would, I wanted to be her more than anything. Despite her difficulties in life, she was a beautiful princess. More importantly – she wore a fabulous blue gown to a ball and had a handsome prince. Cinderella was the first to inspire my fashion. Her famous “glass slippers” resulted in me experimenting with my mother’s heels. Of course, I knew my mother had nothing close to Cinderella’s slippers in her closet. I hoped one day I would be able to own a pair of shoes just like Cinderella’s.
Now, myself and girls all over the world can be a modern princess. Christian Louboutin has changed the future for women and there daughters. The fashion genius revealed at Haute Couture week in Paris (July 2-5) his modern-day take on Cinderella’s slipper. Louboutin was approached with the design task by Disney with the intention of having the soon to be released “Cinderella” Diamond Edition and the LV slipper to be put out around the same time. The shoes holds the same lightness, transparency and beauty that Cinderella’s did in the movie and Louboutin describes them as a “dream materialized.” He adds a modern twist to them by putting delicate lace detailed with crystals to convey the fairytale look in which they are inspired by. Two sparkling butterflies add grace and elegance to the shoe. One is placed on the vamp of the shoe and the other rests on top of the crystal covered heel, subtly brushing the ankle. One difference between the modern slipper and Cinerella’s is the LV’s signature red soles, which represent the femininity, elegance and fun nature of the brand. Louboutin’s creative and innovative imagination is what made him the perfect designer to bring a fairytale to life.
