Sometimes all you need is one piece with an interesting cut, pattern or detail to transform you from everyday plain to runway ready. An amazing jacket, the perfect pair of pants or a stop-and-stare dress… we all have an item we’d like to add to our closet for an extra dose of fabulousness. Fashion Weeks around the world present the opportunity to see collections from the best known designers, but also introduce new designer and brands that are emerging in the industry.
On the Russian fashion scene, BasharatyanV started off with a bang – and a catwalk show during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Russia. The London-based brand was founded by designer Veronica Basharatya, with an aesthetic that is part ready-to-wear and part couture. Structured silhouettes, luxurious details and unique tailoring are just a few of the details that stand out in the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, titled “Balkaria.” BasharatyanV takes inspiration from a classic aesthetic and adds a modern, avant-garde twist to create individual pieces that truly stand apart.
Looking for another brand to watch? Xsenia & Olya not only makes beautiful clothes, but also promises environmental responsibility through a “zero-waste” pattern cutting technique. The brand was launched in 2012, growing out of a friendship between Xsenia Runa and Olya Shishkina – both of whom love to experiment. Their experimental nature can be seen through the Digital Knit technique which they have created for their first collection. Eye-catching digital print patterns on luxe fabrics such as silk jersey, silk satin, light wool and crepe de chine make up the core of the Spring/Summer 2012 “Staircase Wit” collection.
