There are times when delicate jewelry such as simple gold or diamond studs are all you need to add a touch of class and beauty to your image. This isn’t that time. With so many designers offering the biggest, gaudiest, clunky jewelry they can, it’s more than a little overwhelming to find a statement necklace that is fun, but classy. Plus, you can transform your whole look with a few extra stones around your neck—and if that doesn’t work there are always shoes.
First let’s talk baubles. Aside from being fun to say, these little ornaments are better in bunches. The beading and crystals covering this Matthew Williamson bib necklace are packed on, leaving not a gap or space on it. Blue and purple beads decorate the middle of the necklace while oversized red crystals hang from the bottom. The deep cerulean ribbon that’s threaded through golden metal ties in the back adding a fun bow instead of traditional clasp. Matthew Williamson beaded bib necklace is available at Net-A-Porter and priced at $825.
If you’re having a bit of an indecisive moment over which necklace to throw on before you head out the door, this Erickson Beamon Aquarella Do Brasil asymmetrical necklace is for you. With one half a structured chain necklace and the other a smattering of colorful gemstones, both the sophisticated and fun sides of you will be happy. Swarovski crystals and leather backed beading make this necklace quite the stunner. So now it will be much easier to figure out what you’re wearing when you’re going out. Erickson Beamon Aquarella Do Brasil Asymmetrical Necklace is available on Shopbop and is priced at $1,005.
While Marc by Marc Jacobs jewelry is known mostly for their incessant turnlock style, the giant gems necklace is a surprising, albeit fantastic, find. The necklace is a caricature of large gemstones: acetate pieces cut to imitate jewels. Splashed with bits of Czech glass and cubic zirconia, the large “gems” glitter and sparkle, and the chain is interwoven with dotted silk. It has a youthful playfulness to it that only Marc Jacobs could pull off. Marc by Marc Jacobs Giant Gems Necklace is available at Zappos Couture and is priced at $228.
For something a little sleeker the Maiyet Butterfly necklace gives lots of statement without a lot of bits and pieces. Framed in 18kt gold, the four-part necklace is made of natural horn formed to look like butterfly wings. It’s a much more delicate statement piece, but very modern and can easily change the look of your ensemble. This piece in particular is good for summer, the gold accenting tan skin while the browns and nudes of the horn play off light natural colors. Maiyet Natural Horn 4-part Butterfly Necklace is available at Barneys and is priced at $1,950.
If you want statement, this is it. Nest’s Chunky Jasper necklace comes in pink, blue, green, orange, and violet, so you decide which funky color is best for you. With no metal to be seen, aside from the clasp, these rocky stones are bolder than you may dare to wear. The double strand drop is hard to see amid the polished free formed jasper, but that’s what makes it so voluminous. We’re particularly in love with the fiery orange marbleized stones and even Neiman Marcus Fashion Director Ken Downing is a fan. Nest Chunky Orange Jasper Necklace is available at Neiman Marcus and priced at $375.
For the most mix of mediums Proenza Schouler’s necklace is going to really make a statement. There are chains, beads, and climbing rope. Interwoven between the pearlescent black beads and neon orbs is a thin rope. At first glance this looks like blue ribbon or metals, but the texture and soft subtlety of grey and white threads add character to this piece. Add the chunky clasp and you’re pretty much ready to rock and roll. Proenza Schouler Neon Bead, Chain and Rope Necklace is available exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue and is priced at $1125.
