I was at a nightclub a few weeks ago and got a little bored (the band was meh). So I took to counting the men in the room donning a beard. Interestingly, I counted all the way up to 15! But even more surprisingly, the beards looked good (for the most part). Groomed, trimmed, not too bushy–one man even sported a blingy rhinestone twinkling in his abundant facial hair.
It’s a new era for men’s grooming. It’s time to say goodbye to “I’m trying to look homeless as a way to keep it real, man” (take that, Joaquin Phoenix).
This means men, it’s also time to say goodbye to:
- Bushy eyebrows that meet in the middle
- Haircuts that look like it was cut by a drunk friend (or worse, your mom)
- Skin that’s a little too weathered
- Hands that feel like dried snakeskin
- Chapped lips
- Ragged toe and fingernails
- Beards that grow past the cheekbones (otherwise known as “beards gone wild”)
Enter the era where it’s okay, and encouraged for men to put out a little more “esthetic effort” than before. Beginning with skin treatments just for men (yes, men have different skin needs than women) to hair products, to waxing, to massage, and well-manicured nails, men are looking groomed and smelling even better…yay!
The experience of a man visiting a salon is also different than you might expect. At Salon Deauville in Montreal, for example, a manicure is adapted to keep a man’s masculinity in place. Nails are cleaned, trimmed and buffed to a natural finish. Not just esthetic, a therapeutic paraffin treatment to the hands and arms help alleviate issues such as eczema or psoriasis (as well as muscle pain, arthritic or rheumatoid aches).
Another decidedly masculine aspect of our gentleman’s spa experience? We provide an upscale traditional barber shop with stylists who can trim your beard and hair quickly and professionally. (We also offer a Classic Shave Experience that’s classically luxurious.)
Other spa services previous reserved for women but now welcome for men too? Hair color and highlighting. For years, men were relegated to using cheap over-the-counter hair dyes that looked artificial. Now men can benefit from the advanced knowledge of a colorist who can guide you professionally so hair looks natural and healthy.
Still concerned that the salon experience might be too girly or public for you? Not to worry! Your privacy is always a top priority. At Salon Deauville, we provide private cabins for any beautification or spa treatments.
Now is the time to treat yourself! Men, book your visit today!
