They say it takes a village to raise a child, but what does it take to start a successful womenswear line? The answer is two ambitious friends from Central St Martins College. Their names are Xsenia Runa and Olya Shishkina. The duo debuted their line, Xsenia & Olya for the Spring and Summer 2012 seasons, with their ‘Staircase Wit’ collection. The collection was presented in London and Paris’ fashion weeks.
Xsenia & Olya’s garments drape around the body to reveal and conceal the appropriate parts, creating that perfect and hard to find harmony in women’s clothing. The eye-catching, but not overbearing colors of the pieces are what keep the wearer the center of attention at any event or gathering. Xsenia & Olya’s line goes beyond what’s visible to the eye, making sure that everything from the appearance to the feel of the garment is alluring. Fabrics are luxurious and indulgent with tons of printed organic, yet are still abstract –emulating the 21st century fashion trends. Xsenia & Olya is created with a ‘zero waste’ cutting techniques and neo-futuristic technologies. Some of the garments only contain just one seam, providing maximum movement and comfort. Taking inspiration from Madeleine Vionnet’s original cut, X & O keeps their designs symmetrical and detailed with pattern and embellishments. Patterns are one-of-a-kind and taken from geometrical forms to be translated into garments, redefining the body from just back, top and bottom to a three-dimensional whole.
Recently, the brand has released a new Fashion Film with commentary explaining all about the line and designs and footage from photo shoots and their Summer 2012 collection fashion show. To browse more of Xsenia & Olya’s fashions and to learn more about the brand, visit their website here.
