The South African-born beauty crowned Miss Universe New Zealand has reportedly lost her crown.
Event organiser Val Lott had confirmed Avianca Bohm, 22, had lost her title because her citizenship application was denied, TVNZ reported.
A spokeswoman for Internal Affairs Minister Chris Tremain said she could not publicise the ruling on Ms Bohm’s citizenship, which was decided earlier this month.
Competition runner-up Talia Bennett is reportedly now the new Miss Universe New Zealand.
Ms Bohm’s agent Amanda Bransgrove said her client, who was currently in South Africa, would be bitterly disappointed by the news.
She was critical of the way event organisers had handled the affair.
“I don’t think intentions were pure. They were self serving.”
