Captains of industry have clinked glasses at the New York Yacht Club for
more than 150 years. It’s the sort of old boys’ establishment that’s
never had much to do with fashion—at least until last night, when Marc
Jacobs commandeered it for his after-party.
“I feel like I’ve arrived!” Rose Byrne declared on her way up the marble
staircase. In the Model Room—named for all the painstaking replicas of
seaworthy vessels—she joined Bridesmaids co-star Kristen Wiig, whose
boyfriend, Fabrizio Moretti, was deejaying with his old Strokes band mate
Nick Valensi in front of a carved stone fireplace the size of a hangar
door. Waiters passed pigs in a blanket and bite-size beef Wellington
under an opulent Tiffany stained-glass ceiling. Guests who took a moment
to explore the premises might have discovered the first America’s Cup.
But the most popular feature, of course, was Jacobs himself, who watched
a replay of the evening’s show on a flat-screen TV and received the likes
of Karen Elson and Hailee Steinfeld at a corner banquette. Nick and Joe
Jonas came by, straight from the debut of their friend Rob McClure’s new
Broadway play, Chaplin. Like most everyone else, they seemed in awe of
the latter-day grandiosity of their surroundings. Rachel Zoe did, too, but
wasn’t surprised that Jacobs had invited her to such an unlikely venue. “I ask
you this,” she said. “Has Marc ever done anything that’s expected?”
Meanwhile, up on the roof at the NoMad Hotel, Linda Evangelista was
helping the Rag & Bone boys celebrate their new handbag collection with
Barneys, and at Il Buco on Bond Street, Jen Brill, Olivia Kim, and pals
were raising glasses to the duo’s Cole Haan collaboration. “We work all
day, we need something to wear from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and we need a great
shoe for that. To have a room filled with your friends wearing your shoes
is the ultimate success,” Brill told Style.com. They already have holiday
and spring collections in the works.
