Golden Globe Awards 2014: The Best Fashion of the Red Carpet

Golden Globes Fashion 2014

While the guys were busy watching the playoffs (or whatever football game it was that seemed to capture their attention) we were gearing up for the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards. There were pre-shows, interviews, awkward hot-or-not moments that we just couldn’t stop watching—and we loved every minute of it. There’s nothing better than getting to see our favorite celebrities dolled up and spending the evening partying with one another. The hottest actors and actresses stepped out with some of the most beautiful gowns, suits and diamonds that we’ve seen at an award show. Here we take a look at the best fashion of the night because—while we wish we’d been there to become besties with Jennifer Lawrence or hit on Bradley Cooper—we’ll take what we can get.

Red was clearly the name of the game here as several celebs including Lupita Nyong’o, Amy Adams and Emma Watson all stepped out wearing the bright crimson shade. Nyong’o wore a Ralph Lauren dress with Fred Leighton yellow gold diamond studs, vintage gold and diamond cocktail rings, a vintage yellow gold and diamond pinky ring, as well as a solid rose gold clutch from Monica Rich Kosann. Hair styled by Larry Sims.

Metallics and shimmer were another big trend just as they should be on one of the brightest nights in show business. Looking as stunning as a classic Hollywood starlet, Mila Kunis wore a Gucci Premiere dress as well as Gemfields emerald stud earrings and bangle by Marina B.

Even the men looked dressed to the nines paired with their wives—like cute couple Matt Damon and Luciana Bozán Barroso—and we’re totally not even a tiny, little-teensy-bit jealous. Damon wore a Clavin Klein suit with Piaget watch, while Barroso donned a Naeem Khan gown.

Showing off her baby bump, presenter Olivia Wilde strolled down the red carpet before revealing her due date (May 4 for those keeping track) to the press. Keeping up with the glittery trend, Wilde wore a green Gucci dress, a Forevermark diamond and pave marquise shaped ring, cushion shaped double drop earrings, and diamond line bracelet, as well as a Rodo clutch and Charlotte Olympia heels.

Actress Amy Adams may have won herself a Golden Globe, but to us she was a winner before the show even began. Adams wore a Valentino Haute Couture silk chiffon gown with a ruby bodice and deep décolleté from the Shanghai collection, a Lorraine Schwartz yellow gold diamond pendant, rose cut diamond ring, white diamond pave ruby ring, and asscher cut diamond earrings, as well as Brian Atwood heels.

With bold red being such a hot look on the carpet, even the ladies that didn’t wear gowns in the bright color found a way to incorporate it into their look. Television darlings Elisabeth Moss and Zooey Deschanel both rocked a version of the popular hue that set them apart from other bare faced beauties. Deschanel wore an Oscar de la Renta top and skirt, vintage Neil Lane diamond, pearl, citrine, and platinum flower earrings, diamond, pearl, and platinum bracelet, and pearl and platinum ring. Moss wore a J Mendel dress, Jennifer Meyer yellow gold and pave diamond triple drop triangle earrings, ring, and bracelet, as well as Stuart Weitzman heels.

While the ladies may have been stepping up their game for the award night, the men were not about to be left behind. Velvet was a big trend for the gentlemen on the carpet as Matthew McConaughey, Chris Hemswoth and Kevin Spacey all stepped out in the lush material. Spacey wore a black Burberry suit and totally rocked it—looking even more handsome than his younger cohorts.

Super–cute (and gorgeous) couple Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan, came dressed in matching monochromatic outfits. Attending as a presenter, Tatum wore a Gucci black peak lapel one button Signoria tuxedo with a white evening shirt, black tie and a pair of black leather laceups; Dewan wore a Roberto Cavalli dress with Brian Atwood shoes, a Sam Lehr ring and Irene Neuwirth earrings.

After celebrating 25 years of marriage (aww!) Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were spotted looking like the picture of perfection at the Golden Globes this year. Staying away from anything too coordinated, the couple opted for darker colors and chicer lines. Hanks wore a Tom Ford suit and Wilson wore a drop waist Roberto Cavalli gown.

Ok, we’ll try very hard not to talk about the Game of Thrones trailer that was just released—very, very hard. But we can’t help but gush over seeing Daenerys Targaryen Emilia Clarke looking like a true princess out on the red carpet wearing a Proenza Schouler dress, Sidney Garber yellow gold bangles and diamond feather earrings, a Baird & Baird pale pink python clutch with Mother of Pearl clasp, and Giuseppe Zanotti heels with a bright Sally Hansen mani.

Matching outfits were pretty popular last night, with Golden Globe winner Bryan Cranston and wife Robin Dearden going for a black and white ensemble. Cranston wore a Burberry suit and tie, while his wife wore a white gown with a metallic embroidery belt.

 Golden Globes Fashion 2014

Oh, Jennifer Lawrence. If we were taking bets we would have assumed this dress would have made the America Hustle star fall again on her way up the stairs, but (thankfully) it didn’t. We love the all-white gown she’s rocking but what really makes her one of our favorites was that awkward and uncomfortable speech she gave after winning her award. Lawrence wore a Dior Haute Couture dress, Neil Lane chandelier earrings, black and white diamond bracelets, white diamond and platinum ring, and cabochon emerald diamond and platinum ring, a Roger Vivier Paint Box Clutch and Sandale Plateau heels.

Persol Launches New Steve McQueen Limited Edition Sunglasses

Legendary Italian eyewear brand Persol is paying tribute to one of its most famous devotees with a new limited edition pair of sunglasses bearing the signature of Steve McQueen. The actor known as the “King of Cool” famously wore a pair of foldable Persol 714s with custom-tinted blue lenses in 1968’s The Thomas Crown Affair, co-starring Faye Dunaway, which was nominated for two Academy Awards. In 2010, the brand released a short run of 714s with blue lenses that quickly sold out. Now they’re coming out with a finely detailed limited edition version called the 714SM in McQueen’s honor, which is available in tortoiseshell with his signature blue lenses as well as other frame and lens combinations.

Haute online eyewear boutique Eyegoodies, one of the well-dressed man’s best resources for Persols in the U.S., has received one of the only shipments of the new limited edition shades, which vary in price from $359 to $459. The new 714SM’s feature inward folding hinges showcasing the signature Persol double arrow, a detail faithful to the original as worn by McQueen. Lens options include the very latest polarization and photochromic technology. They also come with exclusive McQueen-branded packaging and a custom leather pouch for carrying the sunglasses in their folded up position. Persol made its big screen debut in 1961 worn by Marcello Mastroianni in Divorce Italian Style; other stars who have worn them on and offscreen include Jack Nicholson, Richard Gere, Paul Newman, Pierce Brosnan, Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, George Clooney and Daniel Craig.

Copy Cat: New Zealand soul singer Hollie Ridge picked a white fringed Zambesi dress that we’d seen last year on social butterfly, Jaime Ridge. Who do you think wore it better?

Can Charli Cohen Blend Fashion and Fitness Into One Stylish Collection?

Charli Cohen

The young British designer is no stranger to fashion or fitness, which makes her kind of perfect for the job. Graduating from the Kensington University London in womenswear, her final student collection won her several prestigious awards including the LYCRA Future Designers Award at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards, the Gold and Womenswear Awards at Graduate Fashion Week and the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award. Cohen started early, her first foray into fashion was at 15 (when many of us were still rocking butterfly clips and eye glitter) and began her first personal training agency at 18. So—she knows a thing or two about trying to merge the two together.

Gotta love Nicki Minaj, somehow she masters the art of attention getting behavior and outlandish ensembles. Last night Nicki Minaj played it vibrantly cool wearing a Monique Lhuillier Resort 2013 dress at the 40th annual American Music Awards. She was also baubling an ultra glamourous ring and necklace duo by famed jeweler Charles Albert.

Nicki showed off her well-known curves and gracefully modeled this fearless fashion combo. Later in the evening, she accepted the “Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album”.

We have a feeling, designers are starting to recognize her appeal. As her personal style evolves a little bit of us believes Nicki wanted to be high-fash all along, and now that she’s getting taken more seriously, the opportunity is presenting itself. Congrats to Nicki, though the media threw her away, her redeeming qualities and talent brought her back.

Dear Old Nicki
And it’s still fuck the media they ridiculed you, never believed ya
They just deaded you, left you in all black
But dear old Nicki, please call back

The Emmys last week officially marked the start of Awards Season and with that,

luxury designer

name-dropping. After watching all the Red Carpet recaps last week, we realized there was one designers name that we kept hearing over and over again: Oliver Tolentino. And after doing a little research on the new designer, not only are we impressed with his resum that is already sprinkled with big-name celebrities, but his unconventional approach to luxury womens fashion is intriguing, as well.

Exclusive | Sneak Peek at the Emmys Green Room by Derek Lam and Audi

Derek Lam Emmys Green Room by Audi

Before the red carpet is rolled out for the Primetime Emmy Awards this weekend, I was able to get an exclusive sneak peek at the posh Green Room that was created by

luxury designer

Derek Lam and sponsored by Audi. While this is the second year that the luxury automotive company has sponsored the Emmys, a collaboration of this kind is a first for both brands. Wrapped in a shimmering silver curtain, the Audi Green Room gave off a polished, elegant vibe from the exterior; and opened up to a relaxing, warm space filled with eccentric modern furniture, stunning wooden fixtures and fresh orchids creating a truly unique and stylish setting. Structured angular furniture juxtaposed plush rounded sofas, while soft lighting and an overall neutral color palette kept the room understated and inviting.

I caught up with Lam to get the side scoop on exactly how he ingeniously added comfortable edge to the look and feel of the luxurious backstage lounge area.
