The Eye-Opening Benefits of an Eyelash Lift and Tint

When was the last time you wore a set of false eyelashes?

I can tell you my story. I went to a very fancy fundraiser last holiday. It was a “dress your best” kind of event. I donned a full-length gold shimmer gown (from a consignment shop in Montreal) and got my hair styled at Salon Deauville.

Opting to apply my own make-up, I decided to add false eyelashes to the look. Wow…I looked amazing (if I may say). But as the evening progressed, those darn false eyelashes started to really bother me. Not only could I feel the weight of them but with every blink, I kept fearing the worst: one would fall into my Aperol frosé. Can you imagine?

There’s got to be a better way at this point of our beauty history, right? With some research, I found out about:

The Benefits of an Eyelash Lift and Tint

An eyelash lift and eyelash tint are procedures that curl and color eyelashes permanently. For many, this cosmetic process replaces mascara indefinitely. For others, a mascara curl and tint cuts down on their make-up routine–this alone makes it a fantastic option for the busy woman.

My favorite benefit of an eyelash lift and tint? Even on no-make-up days, my eyes look brighter and wider. How great is that?

What is an eyelash lift exactly?

An eyelash lift is basically a perm for the eyelashes. A chemical solution is applied to your lashes and “set” into a curled shape. You can add tinting  to the process if you have a pale shade of eyelashes (like blonde women often do, for example).

The process takes about an hour and the results can last up to 8 weeks. Most beauticians suggest visiting your salon for a follow-up at this point, where new lashes are touched up.

Post care for an eyelash lift include:

Avoid wetting your eyes, in addition to being in a steamy or high humidity environment.

To play it safe, I didn’t wear mascara for the first week (truthfully: I didn’t need it!) though you could wear it as early as one day after the procedure.

I continue to apply coconut oil to my lashes occasionally to keep them well-conditioned.

My eyelashes didn’t come off that night of the fancy fundraiser. But guess what? With an eyelash lift, I don’t have to worry about it at all–which is way easier!

Like old-school perms from the ’80s, lash lifts set the shape of your natural lashes using a chemical solution. “A lift is essentially what your lash would be doing with a really good mechanical curler, so [giving] a nice shape upward and a realistic curl,” Buhler said.
