Women’s Wear Daily is reporting that Calvin Klein’s new men’s fragrance campaign is getting steamy with the help of True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgård. It is co-starring sexy top model Lara Stone, who is also the face of Euphoria, the brand’s women’s scent.
Encounter Calvin Klein marks Skarsgård’s first endorsement, which he chose based on working with the brand’s team for the campaign in the past. “Their idea for their concept was very intriguing to me — it was almost like a short film, and very film noir. It felt interesting to me,” he told WWD of the TV campaign and print ad. “I wanted to be involved with something where you tell a story — even though it’s a short story.”
The meeting between Skarsgård and Stone is dark and sexy, something Skarsgård is very familiar with and also mimics the fragrance. Encounter, created by Firmenich’s Honorine Blanc and Pierre Negrin, has “top notes of mandarin, cardamom and rum; a heart of pepper, Egyptian jasmine, patchouli and cognac, and a drydown of agarwood, atlas cedarwood and musk.”
The fragrance will be sold in three sizes: 1 oz. for $40, 1.7 oz. for $58 and 3.4 oz. for $72. There will also be a 3.4-oz. aftershave spray for $50, a 75-g. deodorant at $20, and a 152-g. allover body spray for $15; the aftershave balm and hair and body wash will be available everywhere but the U.S.
Catherine Walsh, senior vice president, American Fragrances for Coty Prestige, noted that the scent is intended to be “a new interpretation of the contemporary, confident man. Alexander Skarsgård perfectly reflects the Encounter attitude — modern, stylish and unapologetically masculine.” Until the official ad campaign rolls out in September, Skarsgård will be heating up the small screen when True Blood returns this Sunday night.
