The World of Wearable Arts has signed a nine-year contract with Wellington to host the event in the capital.
Mayor Celia Wade-Brown announced the contract, which begins next year to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the show, at council chambers today.
The event moved from Nelson to the capital in 2005 and is now worth an estimated $15.1 million in economic benefits to the city.
Ms Wade-Brown said the event had flourished since moving to Wellington and was now a global event attracting 47,000 visitors to this year’s show.
